SEAI’s “Emerging Sustainable Energy Champion” award

SEAI’s “Emerging Sustainable Energy Champion” award is now open for nominations. Would you like to nominate someone who is deserving of this award for 2020?

The SEAI's “Emerging Sustainable Energy Champion” award was introduced last year to recognise the outstanding work that many young people do. The award was presented to Victory Luke, a Transition Year student in Collinstown Park Community College, Dublin. Victory led a sustainability project in her school, went on to speak at an international conference and published an article in the Irish Times https://www.seai.ie/case-studies/sustainable-schools/

The SEAI are now looking for nominations for this year’s award and encourage you to nominate one young person who you believe should receive the 2020 award and get the recognition they deserve.

Criteria
The winner will:

  • Likely be in fulltime education* or of school/college going age (primary, post-primary or 3rd level excluding mature students)
  • Have a genuine interest in the area of sustainable energy and climate action;
  • Demonstrate strong activism and advocacy for energy efficiency, renewable energy or climate action in their school or community, and beyond.
  • Demonstrate reach and influence among their peers, community or beyond in promoting positive climate action

*People in full-time employment will not be considered.

How to enter

  • Let us know why this young person is deserving of the award in no more than 1 A4 page
  • Include contact details (parent/guardian if young person is under 18) – email and phon
  • Video (maximum 1) and photos (maximum 4) can accompany the above description, but not mandatory
  • Send the above to aoife.cannon@seai.ie by Friday 7 th August

Selection process

  • All nominations will be considered by SEAI Schools Programme Executives
  • A shortlist of candidates may be contacted by SEAI, we will seek parental/guardian consent for young persons under 18
  • Selection will be on basis of full consensus from SEAI Schools Programme Executives, SEAI’s Head of Communications and one other Senior Manager
  • The winner will be notified by 26 th September and will be invited to attend the Energy Awards event on 16 th October 2020 (format of event to be confirmed)
  • All other applicants will be notified
